U-bar Unites TV & Internet

5:45 PM -- Today on Contentinople:

  • It's no shock that broadcast television is drastically changing, and here's yet another way: scheduling. Programming has traditionally been dictated by scheduling concerns, but with the rapid and increasing adoption of VOD, and the recent pro-Comcast ruling, that's becoming a thing of the past.

  • AT&T and Yahoo team up to enable inter-media time wasting Fantasy Football. U-bar interactive TV service will allow subscribers to track the progress of their fantasy football teams with their remote controls. Now to enable remotes to order pizza and beer.

  • Comcast's CIM is buying DailyCandy for a reported $125 million. The deal has analysts wondering how the handbag- and roller-rink-loving audience will fit in with CIM's other properties.

  • Paris Hilton garners some laughs, via FunnyorDie and the announcement of her presidential candidacy. Ha. Haha?

  • Marketing and news video distributor TheNewsmarket boasts nearly 100 percent growth in annual sales. The increase in traffic is attributed to those who want to browse business info, with revenue coming from an ASP model. At least someone is figuring out how to make money from online video.

  • Time Warner is looking to shed ballast: the subscription-based GameTap. The less-than-a-year-old game library's subscription fee was decreased (from $16.95 to $9.95 a month) and the subscriber count has been kept secret.

And in today's News Bits, NBC hits $1 billion in ad sales for the Olympics.
