6:00 AM -- On this day, 400 years ago, Henry "Hank" Hudson, in search of the fabled Northwest Passage, sailed his Half Moon around the tip of Manhattan (a native term meaning "Island Worth $24") and up a promising river that, sadly, turned out to be merely the Albany-Rensselaer Passage.

But here's the strange part: The name of that river? The Hudson!

How's that for coincidence?

Though Hudson failed in his search for a shortcut to China, he did establish the continent's first bowling alley in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.
