CALABASAS, Calif. -- Ixia, a leading provider of network testing, visibility, and security solutions, is demonstrating a groundbreaking 200 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) live at OFC 2017, The Optical Networking and Communication Conference & Exhibition, which is being held March 21 – 23 at LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA.

The 200 GbE live demonstration, available to attendees in the Ethernet Alliance booth #3709, is another industry first from Ixia. Ixia is sending and receiving IEEE802.3bs compliant, line rate 200 GbE traffic via 50 Gigabits per second (Gbps), PAM4 electrical lanes over the QSFP56 form factor with passive direct attached copper cable.

Based on its own IEEE .3bs compliant KP4 FEC and PCS intellectual property, Ixia is the first company to demonstrate line rate 200GbE technology by combining four electrical lanes of 50 Gbps, defined as 200GAUI-4 by IEEE802.3bs, via four-level Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM4).

The 200 GbE ecosystem has been designed to address the growing bandwidth requirements of expanding hyperscale data centers. In fact, according to a recent Cisco report entitled The Zettabyte Era — Trends and Analysis, global IP traffic is expected to increase nearly threefold over the next 5 years.
