MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Telica, Inc., a leading provider of voice and data infrastructure products for the new telecommunications network, today announced the addition of voice packet telephony to its award-winning Plexus 9000 switching solution. The company's new Voice Packet Telephony Solution allows the Plexus 9000 to serve as both a Class 4 and Class 5 switch for the PSTN and packet-based networks. Customers can start with TDM switching today, and migrate to Voice over ATM (VoATM) or Voice over IP (VoIP) using the same investment.

"Telica continues to execute and deliver on its promises with this announcement of not only packetized voice support, but also an impressive density of over 80,000 TDM ports per shelf," said Christin Flynn of the Yankee Group. "Service providers will now be able to offer a very competitive set of voice services using a platform that allows them to easily migrate to voice packet telephony. Service providers of all types, particularly incumbent carriers, should seriously consider the Plexus 9000 especially for an evolutionary transition to packet networks."
