Telco TV Kicking Butt

NOON -- Telco TV providers are leading both cable and satellite in net video adds for the second quarter of 2009. Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) added 300,000 FiOS TV subscribers, and AT&T added 248,000 U-Verse subscribers. Compare that with the digital video net adds of Comcast (250,000), Time Warner Cable (54,000), and Charter's net loss of 5,700 subs. Telco TV is also beating satellite: DirecTV reported 224,000 net adds, and, although Dish Network LLC (Nasdaq: DISH) hasn’t reported yet, given their recent troubles, it’s a safe bet that telco TV will beat them handily./p>These are just quarterly numbers, so we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves. But given the fact that both FiOS's and U-Verse's homes-passed footprints are significantly smaller than everyone else outlined in this analysis, we have to give them some props, don’t we? — Bernardin Arnason, Managing Partner, Pivot Group , and Chairman, TelcoTV 2009
