Telco Data Center 101

Even as telecom operators embrace IT technology and look to virtualized services and operate them on commodity hardware, the service mix they provide requires more than the typical IT data center infrastructure. While many functions will ultimately be virtualized, many will not Ė leading to a plethora of dedicated appliances, servers and traditional switches and routers being needed for the foreseeable future. Performance and reliability requirements may also play a role in shaping the data center future for telecom, which may ultimately need a more distributed approach to its data center infrastructure. This course will explore how telecom is evolving its data center strategy to support virtualization as quickly as possible while maintaining service standards and supporting future services. This course prepares students for subsequent courses on the telco data center.

Yes, with LAAS and with XCI in general we're automating a lot of this test bed activities. Part of our Pharos program is that we are testing on so many different hardware platforms that we're finding compatibility issues...

@HRKirksey Isn't that what incorporating big data into ONAP is essentially working towards?

Related to another comment; yes, the general assertion is that because there are more eyes, and because the resolution process is more transparent than proprietary code, it should, general, be more secure.   That's...

@HEATHER: Sure.So with Lab-as-a-Service (LaaS), it seems like you're automating a lot of this testbed activity. Security and provenance aside (although I welcome further thoughts on those issues as well), how do you help...

Yeah; to me AI is basically more interesting, sophisticated algorithmic ways to get to certain types of answers. I.e., an AI that is focused on finding potential network issues way before they happen could be integrated...

@Heather one more listener question:  Is there any opportunity out there for automation + AI?

I see a question about compatibility with LAAS. Do you mind clarifying your question just a bit?

open source has a lot of eyes on it thus perhaps making it more secure???

Thanks for the presentation. I think I could have got more value if it were a touch slower or more oriented to slides. I feel like I missed more than I received. Regardless, thanks all the same.

It seems to me that cisco has been embracing opensource for a long time now : after all they are using linux in their products and container networking, what cisco call VRF, has been available many years ago
