T-Mobile Starts 4G LTE Launch With Galaxy Note II
"Starting today, T-Mobile customers with a Samsung Galaxy Note II will receive an over-the-air (OTA) software update that will allow users to experience 4G LTE speeds in areas where T-Mobile's 4G LTE network is available," a spokesman for the operator said in an emailed statement on Monday afternoon. "We will share more information on when our LTE-capable devices will be able to run on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network when that network is more broadly available."
The operator hasn't revealed where its LTE-Advanced network is available. Engadget reports that the service provider has let it test an LTE micro-site in New York City but T-Mobile users aren't seeing the new network in Las Vegas.
So, in a very limited way, T-Mobile can claim to be the first U.S. operator to support Release 10 LTE-Advanced. As things stand, however, we know very little about the speeds and coverage available. Things should get clearer as other LTE-capable devices such as the BlackBerry Z10 get on the network.
