Redknee propels itself into the SPIT big hitters' league by closing the acquisition of Nokia Siemens Networks' BSS unit
March 30, 2013
Canadian vendor Redknee Inc. has transformed itself from an ambitious Service Provider Information Technology (SPIT) minnow into a telecom software powerhouse by closing the $52 million acquisition of Nokia Siemens Networks' BSS unit.
The deal was first announced in early December 2012, about a year after NSN announced its BSS assets would be sold off as part of its major restructuring process. (See Redknee to Pay $52M for NSN's BSS Unit, M&A Interest in NSN's BSS Assets Builds and NSN Unveils Its Kill List.)
The deal gives Redknee CEO Lucas Skoczkowski: the scale he has craved for years; an expanded product set; many more customers; and a much bigger team. (See Redknee CEO: Size Matters and What Will Redknee Get From NSN's BSS Biz?)
Skoczkowski has long been excited about the prospects of running a major telecom software and services player, but he now also faces multiple new challenges: Running a much larger company, which is always a test for any executive; and being a head-on rival to SPIT big hitters such as Amdocs Ltd., Comverse Inc., Ericsson AB, NetCracker Technology Corp. and Oracle Corp.
