Light Reading Mobile – Telecom News, Analysis, Events, and Research

Heavy Lifting Analyst Notes

SDN Draws a Big Crowd

January 15, 2013 | Dennis Mendyk |
Heavy Reading's Jan. 14 research preview webinar proved conclusively what most people in the telecom industry are coming to accept: Software-defined networking (SDN) is THE network technology hot button in 2013.

Even though we sent out only one round of invitations (and this during the dreaded first-week-of-January-hangover period), more than 900 telecom professionals registered for the webinar, and nearly 400 attended the live presentation. Those who clicked in stayed pretty much for the entire program, according to the post-show metrics provided by our crack webinar production team.

Attendees seemed more than happy with the quality of our presentation. More than 90 percent of those who took our post-webinar survey said the program met or exceeded their expectations. Even Tom Brady (or Marcia Brady, for that matter) would be hard pressed to match that kind of approval rating.

If you missed our SDN extravaganza, that's too bad for you. You'll never know what our team of top telecom experts said about SDN and how it will transform telecom networks over the balance of this decade. You are now doomed to stumble through the virtual darkness while your more attentive colleagues and competitors have their Heavy Reading-supplied SDN flashlight to find their way.

I'm kidding, of course. The webinar can still be accessed in our archive. You may want to get to this sooner rather than later.

Don't forget that we're fast coming up on our first-ever Light Reading SDN Symposium, which will take place Feb. 5. It's an online event, so there's no need to battle winter weather or navigate appalling airport security lines to attend. In addition to Heavy Reading's analyst team, Stuart Elby from Verizon Digital Media Services will be on hand to deliver the keynote.

Sponsorships are sold out, but the attendee list still has some openings. Oh, and the event is absolutely free to attend. Follow this link to register for The Future of Software-Defined Networking.

If you attended our SDN webinar, you'll want to drop into the Symposium to see what else Heavy Reading has to say about SDN. If you didn't, you have a second chance to find out what the smart people in the telecom business already know. Don't blow it.
