Light Reading brought the Packet-Optical Transport Evolution conference back to New York this week, filling the day with software-defined networking (SDN), 100Gbit/s talk and yes, a little monkey business.

Here's the Times Square arc that's part of the Marriott Marquis's ninth-floor conference facilities. Click ahead to see more snapshots, and don't miss our other coverage from the show:

Ciena provided the obligatory black T-shirts.

Heavy Reading's Sterling Perrin looks on as Glenn Wellbrock delivers the SDN-heavy keynote.

Wellbrock (far right) got mobbed with questions after his keynote. I was sitting next to him and had to abandon
my laptop (left) to get out of the huddle.

The monkey is always listening. Always.

Perrin's slide on how suppliers define 'SDN.' It's all so clear now!

Lunch break.

Power lunching, nine floors above the noise of Times Square.

Everyone grabs sips of water as Stan Hubbard, Heavy Reading analyst, introduces the panel. From left: Vishnu Shukla (Verizon Labs), Shamim Akhtar (Comcast), Rafael Francis (Cyan) and Geoffrey Mattson (Juniper).

Hubbard's panel, seen from the cheap seats. Bring your own popcorn.

This fellow was diligently working during the conference. See him in action in this video.

As the last speaker of the day, Stu Bennington of Tellabs checks his notes for SDN factoids that haven't already been said.
