RIM to Reveal BB10 Launch Dates on Jan 30

Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) has set Jan. 30, 2013 as the date it will begin to push its new BB10 operating system.

The company said on its blog that it will reveal more about BB10 smartphones at a "launch event" at the end of January.

"The event will happen simultaneously in multiple countries around the world, where details of the smartphones and their availability will be announced," writes RIM's community and blog manager Donny Halliwell.

In June this year, RIM revealed that it would delay the launch of BB10 devices until 2013 because it needed additional time to build more code into the new operating system.

Why this matters
RIM's future hangs on the success or failure of BB10. The Canadian company has been losing market share and revenue as Android rivals and Apple Inc. carve up the smartphone market.
