Siemens Funds Tropos

Wireless LAN mesh startup Tropos Networks will announce this morning that it has received an undisclosed amount of funding from Siemens Venture Capital (SVC).

Neither company has announced how much the investment is, but Bert Williams, Tropos's marketing VP, did tell Unstrung that it is in "the single-digit millions."

Tropos has quietly added another $15 million to its VC funding over the last six months. Officially the company says it has received $13.5 million, plus an undisclosed investment from Intel Capital (see Tropos Pairs With HP, Bags $15M).Adding all of this up, it seems likely Tropos could have gathered somewhere in the region of $40 million in total funding.

Tropos describes the latest investment as "strategic." The Siemens Communications Group is planning to evaluate Tropos's systems for use in "new geographic and vertical markets."— Dan Jones, Site Editor, Unstrung
