Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN)

The Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) works in conjunction with the Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) to maintain a mobile user's connection to the Internet and packet-based mobile applications.

The SGSN handles data tunneling from devices to the GGSN and vice versa. The node also grabs billing and user data and maintains the wireless session if the user is on the move.

SGSN vendors include Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco Systems Inc., Ericsson AB, and Nokia Siemens Networks.
