CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- FairPoint Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: FRP), a leading provider of advanced communications technology in northern New England, today announced general availability of its Managed Wireless Local Area Network (Managed WLAN) service. FairPoint’s Managed WLAN service extends an organization’s LAN infrastructure without the cost of network wiring, supports corporate and personal devices with secure wireless access to company data and applications, and frees organizations from daily operations and management of wireless infrastructure.

“Many organizations are struggling to address rapidly changing network requirements that exceed the limits of existing Wi-Fi deployments, as well as the capabilities of their in-house staff,” said Greg Ross, Vice President, Product Management, FairPoint Communications. “They are looking for worry-free managed networking solutions to power wireless LAN and Voice over IP networks that can meet growing demand for bandwidth while reducing management complexity, addressing security concerns, and ensuring high availability. We expect to see high demand for this type of service from verticals with campus environments, such as education, healthcare, financial services, warehouses and office parks.”

FairPoint’s Managed WLAN provides enterprise-class wireless connectivity that is centrally managed by FairPoint to quickly and proactively resolve any network performance issues. FairPoint also provides software upgrades, as they are released, at no additional cost. IT managers have around-the-clock access to a simple, cloud-based online system to manage their network preferences, and monitor network status and performance. Or, they can utilize FairPoint’s 24/7 Help Desk resources.

“Although wireless network solutions are not new, the challenges that IT managers are facing in delivering scalable, high-bandwidth, wide-reaching and secure wireless coverage in a single building or across a campus environment are increasingly complex,” said Mike Jude, Research Manager for Stratecast, Frost & Sullivan. “FairPoint’s Managed WLAN solution helps address the need to accommodate the proliferation of both corporate and personal mobile devices and the increasing use of high-bandwidth applications that tax a wireless network. In addition, this cloud-based connectivity solution helps IT managers centralize wireless policy and traffic management, consolidate multiple vendors into a single district-wide solution, enhance staff productivity and ensure business continuity.”
