HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Adtran Inc., a provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced as part of its Enabling Communities, Connecting Lives program, that Comporium will leverage Adtran’s broadband portfolio to deliver Gigabit service to the community of Rock Hill, South Carolina as the town looks to reinvent itself to keep up with the changing economy. An economic development and urban strategy – known as Knowledge Park – is currently being implemented by Comporium, the City of Rock Hill, Winthrop University and other community partners to transform the city’s historical center into a vibrant hub of entrepreneurial activity and “knowledge economy” jobs. Comporium is providing a critical catalyst for the effort by upgrading its network infrastructure with Adtran solutions to deliver ultra-fast broadband services for new and existing business customers. This world-class broadband network will enable significant economic growth as businesses relocate to one of the only Gigabit communities in the region.

Fully invested and dedicated to the advancement of the communities it serves, Comporium offers voice, video, data, Internet and security services to both residential and business customers throughout several North and South Carolina markets. The Knowledge Park economic development plan is designed to take advantage of Rock Hill’s existing strengths, including the presence of a leading university and several major knowledge economy businesses. Comporium and its community partners are also setting the stage to evolve and grow the city into one that can support an expanded business community, especially for industries that rely heavily on fast Internet speeds, including website and software development and 3D printing services. Comporium recently introduced their Zipstream service to support the development. The new service offers unprecedented speeds with Gigabit service, providing businesses with the bandwidth they need to successfully compete in today’s global economy.

When looking to redesign the downtown network, Comporium needed a solution that could not only support the fast Gigabit speeds needed today, but was also able to provide the scalability needed for future bandwidth growth. As a result, they turned to Adtran and the Total Access® 5004. A compact solution, the Total Access 5004 is designed to deliver higher rate premium services over fiber or existing infrastructure deep into the network. The portfolio leverages Adtran’s Advanced Services Architecture to offer next-generation residential and business services onto a converged infrastructure. This provides unprecedented architecture scalability and the ability to provide operational cost savings with a single network, all services approach.

Adtran’s Enabling Communities, Connecting Lives program showcases how innovative technologies are being used in cities, towns and communities across the country to support economic growth, urban redevelopment, educational and municipal service support, and innovative residential service delivery. These communities are using Adtran's world-class broadband, Wi-Fi and Cloud service offerings to re-invigorate downtown business and residential districts, connect classrooms with other learning centers around the world, and help attract new companies seeking to relocate out of crowded urban centers.
