Amazon vs. the Publishers

9:25 AM -- The battle between Amazon and publishing companies rages on today.

Hachette has become the latest publishing house to rebel against Amazon's $9.99 e-book pricing, just a week after another publisher, Macmillan, had a showdown with Amazon over the same issue.

Meanwhile Macmillan is continuing its battle. The publishing company ran an ad in today's New York Times promoting a new release -- Atul Gawande's The Checklist Manifesto -- with the tagline "Available at booksellers everywhere except Amazon."

Amazon still has not restored the buy buttons to the pages of Macmillan books after the companies' dramatic face-off last week.
