Versa sews new SASE services into Titan platform

SD-WAN supplier Versa has tied in its full suite of SASE services to its Versa Titan product to support small businesses reliant on managed service providers to bolster their IT services.

Versa says the update to Versa Titan will now provide businesses with small or "Lean IT" teams with access to all of Versa's secure access service edge (SASE) capabilities, which includes a Secure Web Gateway (SWG) and local firewall access for home workers.

"Oftentimes, these [Lean IT] teams are looking for something that's much more turnkey, they're much more comfortable moving forward with a cloud-native solution, and they're looking for implementations that solve problems quickly and integrate with their existing infrastructure, and they want maximum security," says Mike Wood, CMO for Versa.

The SASE company is also adding a new Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) capability to Titan's existing SD-WAN services, analytics, routing, Next Generation Firewall (NGFW), Intrusion Detection and Prevention Services (IDS/IPS), anti-virus/anti-malware, role-based access control and application segmentation features, which can be deployed on a single software image.

Versa Titan can be deployed via the cloud, on-premises or in a combined approach utilizing the Versa Operating System (VOS).

Wood says that even when employees are working from home or from other remote locations, their devices are protected anywhere. "We enabled firewall capability if the at-home worker is running our appliances," he adds. "We introduced these Versa CSG 300 appliances which are low-cost and small footprint, but they run the full Versa Operating System stack within them."

By bringing together ZTNA, SD-WAN and application segmentation into a single client that runs on one device – such as iOS, Mac OS, Windows or Linux – customers can continue to work securely at any remote location, says Wood.

Dell'Oro group recently reported that the global SD-WAN market grew 50% in Q4 2020, compared to the previous year. In addition, the research organization named the top five SD-WAN vendors for revenue share in 2020 as Cisco, followed by VMware, Fortinet, Versa and HPE/Silver Peak. These top vendors achieved two-thirds of the revenue share.

Versa also recently announced several new service provider customers – Wood says Versa's reach in Latin America is growing with the addition of Mexico-based service provider MCM Telecom as a customer, which was announced last fall. He expects Latin America to be the "next major growth area" for SD-WAN. Versa announced managed service provider QOS Networks as a new SD-WAN customer in December, in addition to the recent addition of Deutsche Telekom.
