RIM CEO Denies BlackBerry Death Spiral

BlackBerry 's new CEO says that the company isn't "in a death spiral" despite continuing waves of bad news for the BlackBerry maker.

Thorsten Heins made the comments on CBC Radio-Canada on Tuesday morning. "There's nothing wrong with the company as it exists right now," he said.

The company just reported last week a first-quarter operating loss of $518 million and said it will cut 5,000 more jobs over the course of this year. Heins also said that the BlackBerry maker will have to delay its BB10 operating system launch until the first quarter of 2013.

Why this matters
Heins's comments will come as a surprise to stock markets and media types speculating on when RIM's end will come. Heins did stress on the quarterly report call that the slashing job cuts will help the company move forward.
