WASHINGTON, DC -- USTelecom President and CEO Walter B. McCormick Jr. announced that he plans to resign at the end of 2016. In a letter to the board of directors, he asked Board Chairman Robert Hunt to make 2016 a year of succession planning for the association with the goal of hiring a new president to begin in January 2017.

“I will have had the honor of serving as your association president for more than 15 years. It has been a great privilege to hold this office. I have had the opportunity to represent you before two U.S. Presidents and eight Congresses. It has been a deeply rewarding experience,” McCormick said.

In his letter, McCormick said his successor would have much to build upon, noting US Telecom’s broad, diverse membership made up of broadband service providers — companies large and small, urban and rural, publicly-traded, privately-held and cooperatively-owned.

“However, to all things there is a season, and I believe that with the election of a new U.S. President, the association would best be served by the hiring of a new executive who is prepared to make a commitment of four years or longer to representing the industry and leading it forward,” McCormick added.

McCormick promised the board that it could count on his continuing commitment to the association throughout 2016 and in the search for his successor.
