BURNABY, British Columbia -- PMC-Sierra (NASDAQ: PMCS) today announced the release of the industry's most optimized 10 gigabit system interface developed by the SATURN(R) Development Group. POS-PHY(TM) Level 4 provides an industry-accepted standard for multi service system interfaces supporting OC-192, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and multi-channel 2.5 Gbit/s OC-48 and 622-Mbit/s OC-12 and Gigabit Ethernet as required by the new generation of super routers and layer 3 switches for multi service voice and data networks. This interface is flexible enough to support high-speed Packet-over-SONET (POS) Internet traffic as well as 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) applications.

"The completion of the POS-PHY Level 4 specification marks a significant milestone in the deployment of 10 gigabit systems", said Steve Perna, vice president and general manager of PMC-Sierra's Optical Networking Division. "POS-PHY Level 4 provides an excellent method for next generation routers and switches to support 10 Gigabit-per-second Packet-over-SONET, ATM and soon 10 Gigabit Ethernet."
