1:30 PM -- I've seen the future of mobile content, and it's a lot of people that used to be at Phone.com.

Seriously, I met four or five startups last night that had some connection with the company now known as Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV) They were either started or staffed by former employees of the phone software company.

Now, part of that may have been down to the Californian location or the timing, but it was striking all the same. Phone.com is apparently The Velvet Underground of the mobile world; few made much money out of it at the time, but it inspired a lot of people to go out and do their own thing. Oh, and there sure are a lot of people trying to create the mobile version of YouTube Inc. , but more on that when I get to it.
