NAPERVILLE, Ill.-- Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport networking solutions, today announced that it has been selected by Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC), a full-service quad play telecoms provider operating in 42 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, to enhance the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of its high-capacity fiber optic backbone networks in Barbados and Jamaica.

The new super-high-speed broadband infrastructure for Barbados and expanded optical backbone network in Jamaica will leverage the proven capabilities of the industry leading Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform, including photonic mesh resiliency, low latency coherent transmission, and seamless scalability to high-speed transmission rates of 100G, 200G, 400G, and beyond.

The Coriant solution, which includes world-class network installation services, will help CWC continue to deliver an unmatched customer experience in these markets while enhancing broadband connectivity that can serve as a boost for economic development.

“From state-of-the-art quad services to seamless fixed mobile convergence, a flexible and resilient optical transport infrastructure is critical to our ability to bring our customers a premium communications and connectivity experience,” said Carlo Alloni, CTIO of Cable & Wireless Communications. “The hiT 7300 solution from Coriant will put us at the forefront of optical transmission speeds, agility, and availability and help us cost-effectively meet the current and future bandwidth requirements of our residential and business customers in Jamaica and Barbados.”

Widely deployed in Tier 1 photonic mesh networks around the world, the hiT 7300 is a 96-channel coherent optical communications system that supports the transmission of 100G per channel for a total system capacity of up to 9.6 terabits per second (Tbps) per fiber pair. This high-density, highly programmable solution enables CWC to maximize utilization of its fiber infrastructure and lower operations costs while providing the resilient foundation for scalability of up to 13 Tbit/s per fiber pair as demand for backbone capacity grows over time.
