Infinera's Singh Moves On

8:15 PM -- Jagdeep Singh has left the board of Infinera Corp. (Nasdaq: INFN), apparently ready to "devote his time and energies to the pursuit of his next ventures." At least, that's how it's put in the company's SEC filing Monday.

Singh stepped down as CEO in January to make way for Tom Fallon, and he had been executive chairman of the board until resigning that post on Oct. 14, according to the filing. (See Busy Day at Infinera.)

It's intriguing to think what Singh's next ventures could be. He was a bubble-era superstar as a founder and CEO of Lightera, which quickly got acquired by Ciena Corp. (NYSE: CIEN) and gave that company the flagship CoreDirector product line. He followed that up with Infinera, which became one of Silicon Valley's most closely watched startups. (See Infinera Shoots for the Moon and Infinera Declares WDM War.)

Infinera's path to an IPO was expensive, certainly not a get-rich-quick story, next to Lightera. (We once asked Singh about washout rounds, and he said Infinera never had one.) Regardless, if Singh does another startup, he'll get calls from a lot of potential investors.
