Nokia's tablet flies with WiFi, not WiMax, at CTIA
1 Min Read
5:45 PM -- Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) had an impressive demo of its new 810 WiMax tablet at CTIA. The Finish wonders hauled 20 journalists 180 feet in the air on an eight-ton crane in order to show off "real mobile Internet" access on the gadget.
Just one problem. The demo worked perfectly smoothly, but it wasn't using WiMax but rather WiFi to get connected. To be fair, the Nokia folks cheerfully copped to that fact when asked, as there isn't a commercial WiMax network they can use in Vegas to get online. Still it was a little bit of a bump back down to earth.
