Transaction strengthens Huawei's SDN and cloud capabilities.

DUBLIN -- Huawei, a leading global information and communications solutions technology (ICT) provider today announced the acquisition from the Irish company Amartus, of its SDN software technology.

Amartus is a Dublin based software developer and SDN service solutions provider.

The acquisition of Amartus’ software assets will enable Huawei to accelerate its SDN roadmap and improve its competitiveness in SDN solutions and services by introducing fast business innovation and multi-vendor capability.

Zha Jun, President of Huawei’s Fixed Network Product Line, said “We are delighted to have acquired the ground breaking Amartus technology. The expertise and talented staff from Amartus product group who will be joining Huawei will help deliver our commitment to produce and develop innovative and high quality cloud and network services.”

Under the deal Amartus retains rights to service current customers. Amartus’ primary focus going forward will be providing telecoms software development and integration expertise and services to vendors and service providers.

Michael Kearns, the CEO of Amartus said, “We are excited to be able to bring this innovative technology to Huawei at a time when the telecom’s industry is experiencing unprecedented change, driven by software”.

The deal involves Amartus’ senior team and product staff based in Ireland joining Huawei (Ireland), and shows Huawei’s commitment to expanding its research and development investment in Ireland and across Europe.
