LAS VEGAS -- NextWave Wireless Inc. (NASDAQ: WAVE), a global provider of mobile multimedia and wireless broadband technologies, today announced that Cheetah Wireless Technologies, Inc., a wireless mesh network solutions provider, has upgraded its Las Vegas broadband Wi-Fi infrastructure with NextWave’s state-of-the art MBW 2000 series micro cell and MBW 1000 series pico cell base stations, offering improved mobile wireless connectivity along the Las Vegas Strip – both inside and outside the world’s largest casinos, hotels and convention centers. Together, NextWave and Cheetah Wireless will offer Las Vegas’ mobile population improved portable indoor/outdoor Wi-Fi accessibility via an innovative, unique brand-supported business model.

NextWave’s pico cell base stations – powered by its innovative xRF™ adaptive beamforming smart antenna technology – provide Cheetah the capacity to offer multiple high-quality user access channels to its network, including Cheetah Wireless’ own tiered service levels, as well as third-party branded service offerings. The branded service option offers a retail service provider, such as a hotel or a campus landlord, the opportunity to use their brand as the entry point to Cheetah Wireless’ network and supply content for a privately-branded landing page, with the company sponsoring Wi-Fi access service. This model provides the retail service providers with the opportunity to serve the massive population of Las Vegas tourists and business travelers looking for Wi-Fi connectivity, and attracts more users to Cheetah’s network.

NextWave’s xRF™ technology dramatically increases signal penetration through the Las Vegas Strip’s dense steel and glass high rise structures, providing broadband capacity to connect more users per node than any other Wi-Fi based carrier class solution, and enabling the success of Cheetah Wireless’ network.

“NextWave’s access points have made it possible to reach further into buildings and cover more area, so we have doubled and, in some cases, tripled users on certain units,” said Mitchell Gonzalez, president and founder of Cheetah Wireless. “Our network offers mobility to users, so they can have high-quality Wi Fi inside and outside hotel rooms, casinos and convention center floors with one access plan. Our new branded service model offers companies a way to use their own content and offer lower prices for consumers – a winning combination.”
