LAS VEGAS -- NewStep Networks Inc., a market and technology leader in service convergence, today announced it has incorporated a social networking communications framework into its Converged Services Node (CSN) platform. These new capabilities build on NewStep’s recent introduction of a personalized communications framework that provides users with services that are tailored to their unique personas, based on NewStep’s award winning fixed-mobile convergence technology that delivers a seamless mobile experience between cellular and wireless networks and devices.

“Adding convergence capabilities to social networking applications furthers NewStep’s commitment to enabling a personalized user communications experience,” said Shannon Bell, vice president of marketing at NewStep. “Knowing when a contact is online, how they want to be contacted and the best manner to reach them delivers a rich user experience that puts the user in control.”

NewStep has developed a Facebook application that enables a converged click-to-call experience, providing user control over one’s identity, social network, and communications channels. Similarly, NewStep’s widgets for Yahoo!oneConnect and iGoogle bring convergence into a user’s own personalized mobile or web portal, leveraging all available presence, location, and behavior characteristics.

These new features are built on NewStep’s proven convergence server that is commercially deployed and delivering solutions to service providers and enterprises today.

Understanding the full experience of women in technology requires starting at the collegiate level (or sooner) and studying the technologies women are involved with, company cultures they're part of and personal experiences of individuals.

During this WiC radio show, we will talk with Nicole Engelbert, the director of Research & Analysis for Ovum Technology and a 23-year telecom industry veteran, about her experiences and perspectives on women in tech. Engelbert covers infrastructure, applications and industries for Ovum, but she is also involved in the research firm's higher education team and has helped colleges and universities globally leverage technology as a strategy for improving recruitment, retention and graduation performance.

She will share her unique insight into the collegiate level, where women pursuing engineering and STEM-related degrees is dwindling. Engelbert will also reveal new, original Ovum research on the topics of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, security and augmented reality, as well as discuss what each of those technologies might mean for women in our field. As always, we'll also leave plenty of time to answer all your questions live on the air and chat board.
