>SOMERSET, N.J., and BURNABY, British Columbia -- Multilink TechnologyCorporation (Multilink) and PMC-Sierra (NASDAQ: PMCS) today announced atechnical and marketing alliance to develop complete 10 Gb/s referenceplatforms for optical networking. The two companies will combine Multilink'snewly announced SiGe SerDes chipset and Forward Error Correction (FEC)devices with PMC-Sierra’s 10 Gigabit-per-second framer technologies to facilitatethe rapid design of innovative linecard solutions targeted for the Metro market.Customers will be able to leverage the unique features of each device at thesystem level and ensure SFI-4 industry interoperability between a framer deviceand a physical layer chipset from two different component vendors.

The reference design, introduced at OFC, provides a complete 10 Gb/s physicallayer and framer solution by combining Multilink's advanced chipset, theMTC1233M multiplexer with integrated clock multiplier (MUXCMU 9.953, 10.664,12.249 Gb/s) and MTC1234M demultiplexer with integrated clock and datarecovery (CDRDMUX 9.953, 10.664, 12.249 Gb/s) with the industry’s mostintegrated single chip OC-192 framer, PMC-Sierra's recently announced PM5317SPECTRA-9953 (OC-192/STM-64 channelized STS-1 framer and pointerprocessor).

“The combination of our advanced SerDes design, based on the latest SiGetechnology, and PMC-Sierra’s innovative framer devices, provides an optimal solution for the OC-192 Metro customer,” said David Huff, Multilink VicePresident, Product Marketing. “This alliance clearly demonstrates our combinedeffort to provide an effective system which fully meets or even exceeds the needsof our customers.”
