Vodafone's not bidding for MTN

11:15 AM -- Vodafone Group plc (NYSE: VOD) says it's not interested in bidding for emerging markets mobile operator MTN Group Ltd. , according to a report in the Financial Times. The world's largest operator by revenue was checking out MTN last week, but decided not get involved in a bidding war for the African and Middle Eastern mobile operator. (See MTN Becomes M&A Magnet.)
Instead, Vodafone is keen to increase its 50 percent stake in South Africa's Vodacom Pty. Ltd.
Meanwhile MTN is in takeover talks with Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Mumbai: BHARTIARTL).
