STOCKHOLM -- Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and China Telecom have partnered to deploy Ericsson’s innovative LTE Radio Dot System in two of the country’s coastal provinces, Zhejiang and Guangdong. This is the first implementation of its kind in Mainland China and the Radio Dot Systems are now in commercial service. The deployment demonstrates the indoor solution’s capabilities catering to the fast-growing demand for data traffic on a large scale.

Ericsson Radio Dot System is the most cost-effective and innovative solution providing capacity, performance and efficient installation to tackle indoor coverage challenges. The solution enhances indoor user experience and ensures that users have access to consistent indoor and outdoor service experience, while meeting needs for explosive data traffic growth.

Through close cooperation with Ericsson, China Telecom’s Zhejiang and Guangdong branches quickly implemented their LTE Radio Dot Systems in two varied indoor environments – new buildings and modified venues. China Telecom’s Guangdong branch achieved the first carrier aggregation of 20MHz (1.8GHz) + 20MHz (2.1GHz), which is based on LTE Radio Dot Systems and enables 300 Mbps speeds for users. At the same time, it was able to achieve strict control of signal leaks and seamless switching between the Radio Dot Systems and the outdoor macro station.

China Telecom has lately ramped up investment in building a superior 4G LTE network throughout China to provide a fast and undisrupted 4G wireless network. A major task facing the operator is how to enhance its indoor 4G network performance and achieve a better user experience for the subscribers.

Chris Houghton, Head of Region North East Asia at Ericsson, says: “We have received very good feedback from China Telecom on the Ericsson Radio Dot System’s excellent performance, ease of deployment and cost-efficiency. Ericsson will continue to assist China Telecom and other operators in the country with innovative solutions to provide the best network coverage and speed.”

The Ericsson Radio Dot system removes indoor bottlenecks by improving performance and capacity to cope with different kinds of services in medium-to-large indoor locations. The system uses an innovative antenna element – a Radio Dot – that enables high-performance mobile broadband. Weighing only 300 grams, the Ericsson Radio Dot features an elegant design, both in the form factor and in the network architecture, while enabling an efficient deployment that is fully integrated with the outdoor macro network.

Merits of the Ericsson Radio Dot System have been proven in worldwide deployments. Leading operators globally, including Claro, MTS, SingTel, Telefonica, Verizon and Vodafone, have all deployed Ericsson’s Radio Dot System.

A research report by Ericsson ConsumerLab reveals that indoor mobile data traffic now accounts for about 70 percent of the total, so it is of vital significance for operators to meet an exponential increase in mobile data demand from users through innovative ways to improve indoor coverage and increase speeds of mobile networks.
