OpenPeak Signs AT&T's Hill as Prez for Biz Climb

Well-funded mobile device management company OpenPeak has signed on former AT&T executive, Chris Hill, as its new president.

The mobile device and application management company created the new position so that Hill could help guide OpenPeak's strategy and identify market opportunities as the company gets into what it describes as a "rapid growth phase." Hill will report to Chairman and CEO Dan Gittleman.

Hill was formerly the senior VP of AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T)'s business solutions unit. (See AT&T's Armada: 4G, Small Cells & More.)

OpenPeak received $93 million in funding from AT&T in December 2013. It has pulled in $145 million in venture funding all told. (See Mobile VC Bumps Up to $868M in December.)

Aside from the funding, AT&T has been working closely with OpenPeak for a few years. OpenPeak developed the carrier's "Toggle" business and personal dual-billing software. (See AT&T Readies Dual-Billing Toggle Update in Q1 and AT&T App Enables Work/Play Divide.)

Dan is to hats what Will.I.Am is to ridiculous eyewear. Fedora, trilby, tam-o-shanter -- all have graced the Jones pate during his career as the go-to purveyor of mobile essentials.

But hey, Dan is so much more than 4G maps and state-of-the-art headgear. Before joining the Light Reading team in 2002 he was an award-winning cult hit on Broadway (with four 'Toni' awards, two 'Emma' gongs and a 'Brian' to his name) with his one-man show, "Dan Sings the Show Tunes."

His perfectly crafted blogs, falling under the "Jonestown" banner, have been compared to the works of Chekhov. But only by Dan.

He lives in Brooklyn with cats.
