The iPad Has WiFi Teething Troubles

1:35 PM -- Some of the 30,000-plus owers of a new Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad have hit their first snag with the device: The tablet can have trouble getting on WiFi networks.

CNN notes that users have been complaining of weak WiFi service with the device. This might not be a huge problem if this version of the iPad had any other way to get connected to the Internet and download applications -- but it doesn’t. The 3G version of the device isn’t due until late April.

Apple has issued a guide to getting connected for iPad users. It also suggests resetting the WiFi router or switching off security to "rule out encryption issues."

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) has said previously that it expects even the 3G version to be a WiFi-driven device first and foremost. This might change if 3G turns out to the more reliable method of getting online. (See CTIA 2010: Where's Carrier Support for 3G iPad? and Will the Apple iPad Crush 3G Networks?.)
