LG Smartphone Launch Cuts to the Quick

Oh hey, is it time for our William Tell act or is it just an LG smartphone launch event?

If you missed it, LG Electronics Inc. (London: LGLD; Korea: 6657.KS) 's unveiling of its G2 smartphone in Seoul, South Korea last Friday resulted in 20 injuries after the vendor released vouchers for free G2s in 100 red balloons, according to BBC reports. People turned up with knives on sticks and air-rifles in a bid to down the smartphone vouchers hanging from the helium balloons.

Here's how it went down:

"LG Electronics deeply regrets that a number of Korean participants were injured during an outdoor promotional event in Seoul, Korea," the firm said in a statement.

It's not clear if LG was trying to ape Nena's Cold War classic 99 Luftballons with the stunt or the company just really digs the Butthole Surfers.
