Transit Wireless pushes towards having 247 stations covered with WiFi by year's end.
The NYC subway WiFi deployment from Transit Wireless has extended more widely into Brooklyn with signals showing up downtown -- and perhaps further.
WiFi is now up and running downtown in Brooklyn on the major A, C and F commuter lines and extends at least as far down as the Clinton-Washington stop on the C line.
Transit Wireless LLC hasn't revealed any new stations since late August. It is, however, easy to connect over WiFi when riding in the Fort Greene neighborhood in Brooklyn.
Transit Wireless has committed to enable WiFi in all 279 underground stations in the subway system by the end of 2016. It now says that complete cellular service will be available "as soon as possible." (See Transit Wireless Accelerates WiFi Deployment in NYC Subway.)
Cellular and WiFi was supposed to be available across all the underground stations in the system by the end of 2017. Evidently, however, the company has decided to focus on WiFi first.
And, hey, readers, if you see signals further down the line, let me know. Thanks!
