NEW YORK -- GOWEX, a leading provider in the creation of Wireless Smart Cities, in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), today launched We2, the new Social Wi-Fi network, with more than 500 pioneering merchants subscribed throughout the city, including Empire Steakhouse, AG Kitchen, Manducatis Rustica, Goodfellas, Tiengarden and Station.

We2 is the next generation of GOWEX Wi-Fi solutions, building Smart Citizens on top of the company’s existing Smart Cities worldwide. The We2 Social Wi-Fi platform includes the NetVertiser device and the We2 Merchant mobile application. Together they allow businesses to provide secure Wi-Fi, create geolocated ads and promotions, message directly with customers, and review real-time business insights. On the customer side, a We2 User app for individuals will let people enjoy free in-store Wi-Fi, frictionless roaming at We2 and GOWEX hotspots across the city, and great social features like the ability to see and interact with other people connected to the We2 network.

Currently most small businesses use their private Wi-Fi signal and hand out the password to their customers, which is time-consuming and unsecure for both the merchant and consumer. Now, with We2, business owners are able to separate their private Wi-Fi connectivity from the one they give to the public. Also, where once small merchants did not have the time or funds to bother with advertising, We2 creates a dramatically easy and affordable way to effectively promote their businesses to people nearby. Merchants can set up an ad on the go from their mobile as easily as sending a text.
