What could be nicer than talking wireless in the sun?

After a gray, rainy winter in most of Europe and constant snow and ice across much of the US, the promise of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is getting to discuss mobile with the best and brightest in wireless world while catching some spring sunshine and enjoying the sights and tastes of a wonderful city.

That's the upside. And for every upside...

So leave it to the MWC veterans at Light Reading to remind you that there are many aspects that can make the massive wireless conference a challenging, sometimes shocking, and sometimes even physical experience. Click on the picture below for just a few suggestions from our in-house pessimists (mostly based on experience).

Taxi Drivers Who Are Unfamiliar With Barcelona
So you're trying to get to a hotel in the Gothic quarter by speaking bad Spanish to a Polish dude that never got his Yugo further than West Berlin before. High jinx ensue.
So you're trying to get to a hotel in the Gothic quarter by speaking bad Spanish to a Polish dude that never got his Yugo further than West Berlin before. High jinx ensue.

As ever, we encourage you to share your experiences (including the positive ones, of course) on the message board below, and/or tell us what a bunch of horrible curmudgeons we are.

Re : MWC: 10 Things That Could Melt Your Mind
The sex workers are really a problem, but given that the costs of living in Barcelona, some people have no choice but to jump into this business. We cannot turn out heads from the truth. What happens with sex workers are horrible.

About the image number 5: Seriously this is an issue. Where mobile networks are getting increased security, there is a miss of the same security in the lives of humans. Peaceful protests often turn bloody, mostly due to the apathy of governing bodies towards the demands of the protesters.

It's a great experience, but you have to watch it in Camp nou. The only available game for Barca in camp nou is on on Sunday, March 2nd.

Re: Tapas-tastic!
@joyantonio it fits with the maxim, waste not, want not. It's all a matter of what you're used to. One of my cousins used to nibble on chicken feet. I see them for sale in my local store but have no desire whatsoever to try them.

@Ariella Here in Asia, you don't really know how to eat fish until you can make the most out of the head ;)

Re: Any favorites?
It's a great way to get to know the place outside of the Fira and the well-worn Las ramblas Irish bar businessperson-out-drinking circuit. Last year I got to watch El Clasico, Barca's showdown with Real Madrid, out at a local bar and it was such a great experience--so glad I went!

Meh.  Think beisbol in the muggy Chicago summer, not futbol in Spain.  I look forward to Chicago, Wrigley, Cubs, and a local pub.

Re: Any favorites?
I't love to see footbal over there! And, yes, I am aware that what we call football in the USA is different from the sport the rest of the world plays. I may be American but I'm not dumb...

Unfortunately I am that unable to travel, mostly for financial reasons. So I'll have to be there in spirit rather than flesh.

Besides, I don't speak the language. Altough, living in South Florida as I do, the same language barrier is prevalent here...

I did that one year. Highly recommend. It was an awesome experience even though I had no idea what was going on.
