BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Airspan Networks Inc (NASDAQ – AIRN) today announced that it has commenced shipments of its MicroMAX Base Station in the 5.8GHz frequency band.

With today’s announcement, Airspan introduces MicroMAX in the 5.8GHz TDD WiMAX profile. The company will add MicroMAX frequencies in the 3.3-3.4GHz TDD band by year’s end. With this latest addition to its portfolio, Airspan now offers customers the best cost-performance profile in a WiMAX base station in both licensed and unlicensed WiMAX-supported frequencies.

Airspan first announced the launch of its MicroMAX base station in March 2006 in the 3.5GHz FDD band. The base station is based on the high-performance SQN2010 WiMAX Certified(TM) base station system design of Sequans, and was the first cost-optimized, pay-as-you-grow WiMAX solution available in the market place. It offers service providers and network operators a unique value proposition of very high performance at an affordable price point.

Alastair Westgarth, Airspan’s Chief Technology Officer, commented: "Our newest MicroMAX base station reinforces Airspan’s position as a leader in addressing all segments of the broadband wireless marketplace. MicroMAX is fully optimized for WiMAX deployments using our existing Indoor EasyST and Outdoor ProST subscriber terminals and Netspan WiMAX Element Management System. We now offer customers a differentiated, all outdoor base station solution, in both licensed and unlicensed bands, that allows them to initiate service or to fill in coverage holes and to incrementally grow their systems, by adding low-cost Base Station Radios (BSRs) one by one."
