2:00 PM -- It's a big day for mobile broadband today as Telia Company celebrated the one-year anniversary of its world's-first commercial Long Term Evolution (LTE) service launch.
Yes, one year ago today, the Swedish operator flipped the switch and turned on its next-generation mobile broadband network in Stockholm, as well as in Oslo, Norway. [Ed note: My how time flies!] Since then, the operator has launched LTE services in Denmark and Finland. In addition, TeliaSonera runs LTE pilot networks through subsidiaries in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Uzbekistan. TeliaSonera has found that its 4G customers use the faster network in a way that is different from other mobile data users. For example, about 23 percent of its 4G customers say they watch more online TV and 28 percent listen to more Web radio and music services like Spotify . Also, 46 percent say they surf the Web more often when away from home while 12 percent play more online games. (See MWC 2010: TeliaSonera's LTE Progress.)
