Re: Arris not ruling out more M&A

Mari,

The one thing is that volume only matters if you can get customers to a single product line.  If they have to move multiple lines, it may make the OPEX and COGS situation worse.

They did foresee it. And they made the calculation that to continue making money in the set-top business while ramping up efforts in other sectors they needed larger scale. I imagine the margins would be even worse on smaller volumes.

Arris not ruling out more M&A
I have come to the conclusion that large companies like Arris have either ran out of ideas, or competent people to run its operations. Did they not foresee a decline in set-top box revenue when they bought Pace? The landscape for video watching is changing at a fast pace, especially with younger viewers.Despite innovative open-source STB  X1 from the likes of Comcast, this might be the last frontier for STBs as we know it, and it will only be a matter of time before it's interest starts to wane before joining the almost defunct MTA that are mostly used by seniors.

On the other hand, streaming boxes are growing in popularity, especially OTT ones. In addition, smartTVs that are feature-rich are replacing STB as a first option.
