Cisco's notion of a more modular CCAP approach would also seem to make the most sense for operators already using Cisco gear in a modular CMTS set-up, where the core CMTS is handling the upstream and edge QAMs are handling the downstreams. Vendors all seem to have somewhat different migration paths , which we'll be outlining in more detail soon. Arris, for example, is already well downstream with the E6000, a CCAP-capable chasis that will initially function like a high-density CMTS, and an approach it considers a 'middle step' to CCAP. JB
