The first generation or two of any new technology is not very battery friendly.  Why would LTE be any different?  In the next generation or two, LTE should be about the same as 3G in terms of battery.  Remember, early on 3G was horrible on the battery compared to 2G which is no longer the case.

 

How many operators have actually rolled out VoLTE?  MetroPCS is the only one.  The others have waited as they could afford to wait.

Must admit I'm surprised to see VoLTE affect smartphone battery life by so much here. 

Sounds like an unsatisfactory experience for 4G subscribers with VoLTE devices in the U.S. (how many of those are there, anyway?) So, what are operators doing about it?
