Not sure if LOS MIMO is optimal solution for small cell backhaul, at least not for the pole line locations. In most places, it was difficult enough to get permit for mounting one dish; asking for 2 dishes might be asking for too much. I was told Ceragon has few other "tricks" to provide higher capacities even w/ single pole antenna. What's critical for MW backhaul (especially for small cell layer) are licensing costs. Cost of wide channels in licensed frequency bands might be so high that (even w/ inexpensive gear) it might be difficult to make a business case for MW solution.
I think the early distributed RAN deployments in Korea and China Mobile's Cloud RAN trial use fiber for fronthaul. Are any operators using wireless links yet?
