I'm kind of impressed with how quickly this has moved. Whether it catches on with the wider community, who knows, but there's definitely interest in involving the optical layer with SDN.
btw, I should reiterate that the OTS isn't just an Infinera thing - the October 2012 paper on it that I saw includes ADVA, Ciena, Ericson, Huawei, Juniper, probably a couple others I'm forgetting.
