Not neccessarily. This may be a play at T-mob's roaming business. Currently TMob customers roam on AT&T's network. T-mob can't currently roam on VzW because of the different protocols. If VzW and Tmob shared both the frequency band (AWS) and the technology (LTE and VoLTE), Vzw could take that business from AT&T. That doesn't neccessarily mean more charges to the consumer. It does means more competition at the wholesale level, and T-Mob may pass those saving on to their subscribers.
Rural companies owning spectrum have long complained about roaming costs and lack of availability of the hottest handsets - does the Verizon deal help them at all?
Yep, but under the deal, Verizon has to allow roaming on 4G deployed on AWS so you can use cheaper MetroPCS or T-Mobile service and phones and roam onto Verizon's network, can't do that at the moment.
Verizon having more spectrum & resources to sell doesn't mean they're cutting the price.. infact they've raised prices ACROSS THE BOARD.. wireline and wireless! This does nothing for you the consumer but jacks up Verizon's income and empties your pockets! Best to buy service elsewhere!
