2.5Gbps GPON from what I've heard... with a low split ratio.

The Internet service is certainly attractive, but their TV channel lineup isn't.

So is the idea that you get amazing Internet and then view all your video that way?

It's gotta be in the PON family, but I'm trying to find that out and will pass along any details I can get. JB

As the 5/1 service goes, Google's pledged to guarantee free service for 7 years to those who pay a one-time $300 construction fee, or 12 monthly payments of $25. Hope that clears it up a bit. JB

Thanks for the 'tweet' posts earlier. I still don't understand 7 yrs free service 5/1 Mbps for the $300 'construction fee.' Is that free, or nothing beyond the $70/month fee?

I was half expecting to hear ideas from Google about new apps that could use gigabit connectivity yet there wasn't a lot of that today.

Nevertheless I found their demos very compelling. I probably waste at least half an hour every day waiting for things to spool, download, etc. And I lost a word or two here or there during today's webcast for the same reasons. The gigabit service seems to make those delays and glitches vanish.

For $70 a month, I'd sign up for service if I lived in KC.

The pricing is very attractive, but there's probably a good reason Google's going to target service to neighborhoods with the most demand and beg for it the most...they have to be taking a digger for each customer, no? But we'll have to keep an eye on how TWC and AT&T  responds with pricing and/or new service packages. Even though  Google Fiber will only be offered pocket by pocket, I imagine GOOG will win alot of customers where it does offer this service (provided they can live without ESPN and some of the channels that aren't carried yet).
