This turn of events is entirely predictable. Service providers whine that incredible next-gen optics are not available the moment they want some, after 10 years of starving their supply chain. Who is supposed to be doing this R&D, slaves? They will have to wait a bit longer. Ha.

You know, I knew somebody was going to bring up the existance of a more expensive Japanese car. :) I left the quote as-is anyway, because it's a good one, and I think we can all ballpark the types of vehicles he's talking about.
(Even that RL model isn't so pricey compared with the really expensive cars he's got in mind.)

yes, today 100G optics is quite expensive, large, power hungry. But stay tuned. I suspect that 100G price points for optics will move pretty dramatically second half of 2010. Hopefully the electronics guys will be there and be ready by end of 2010 or early 2011. the optics will not be the "long pole in the tent" so to speak
