SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Marvell® (NASDAQ: MRVL), atechnology leader in the development of extreme broadband communicationsand storage solutions, today announced the availability of a referencedesign co-developed with Cavium Networks, the security processor leader, for cost effective, enhanced security Enterprise Wireless LAN (WLAN)switches. The new Enterprise WLAN switch reference design addressescustomer's security, cost, integration, and manageability concerns. Thenew reference design from Marvell and Cavium solves these concerns whileoffering customers a way of differentiating their product offerings andgetting to market quickly.

The Enterprise WLAN switch reference design is a full-featured solutionwith packet switching, protocol- and security - processing componentsrequired for an enhanced Enterprise WLAN switch. Incorporated into thedesign is Cavium's market leading security processing component andMarvell's award-winning Prestera switching- and protocol-packetprocessing components. The design offers 24 Fast Ethernet ports with 2Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) uplinks and delivers wire-speed Ethernetswitching, routing and IPsec processing. Each port can be configured aswireless or wired allowing the end customer to aggregate their wired andwireless users into a single box. Enterprise WLAN switches based on thenew reference design will support centralized management, enhancedsecurity (encryption and authentication), bandwidth prioritization, radio power management and software updates. The Enterprise WLAN switchreference design offers a scalable architecture, from 1Gb to 10Gbspeeds, hardware, and support for Linux and application softwareenabling customers to get their products to market quickly.

A key advantage of the Enterprise WLAN switch reference design iscentralized control and management of Access Points (APs), which enablesa reduction in complexity and cost of the AP device as well as theoverall wireless network. Centralized management simplifies the networkadministrators job by enabling them to manage a single device, the newWLAN switch, rather than separately configuring all of their APs, whichcan equate to a dozen or more devices. The centralized managementfeature also enables easy detection of rogue APs and ad-hoctransmissions significantly enhancing the security of the WLAN. Byusing the new reference design customers have access to centralizedmanagement and enhanced security features that are necessary for broaddeployment in the Enterprise WLAN market.

"Cavium Networks is already the leading choice for IPsec, SSL and WLANsecurity processing in WLAN switching equipment," said Syed Ali,President and CEO of Cavium Networks. "With this new relationship withMarvell, we are excited to bring to our customers robust, scalable andintegrated cost-effective designs that implement security, packet andprotocol processing and switching functions at industry-leading pricepoints. This will enable lower costs, faster time to market and greatersoftware innovation for our OEM customers leading to accelerated WLANdeployment in the Enterprise."

"Marvell is driving new levels of functionality in switches and designcapabilities," said Paul Valentine, Senior Director, Product Marketing,Enterprise Business Unit. "This reference design with Caviumexemplifies our commitment to bringing the right products to ourcustomers and setting new expectations in the market."
