Companies like SeaChange are trying to help cable companies grasp the changing world being driven by an Internet mindset. Some of the key areas include providing an experience that gets to know viewing habits better to help the customer narrow down the viewing selection; time shifting, which, in the case of SeaChange is provided via its Restart TV service (essentially DVR capabilities without the hardware); and the social networking aspect of the Internet, where you can create like-minded groups which share viewing "affinity." With SeaChange's Affinity feature, customers can view listings from a laptop or PDA and create a profile that not only helps them get a more detailed selection, but which they can also share with their affinity group if they choose.
