Alcatel-Lucent's Jean Philippe Poirault talks about transforming networks to all IP. He explains that there are a number of drivers for operators to make the change: Intensive competition to evolve, re-user cost and opex, and high demand for broadband services -- as well as the ability to create a platform that can handle new services. He cites recent Heavy Reading research on the cost of next-gen IMS versus legacy switching and explains how some of these costs are driving operators to embrace all-IP networks.
