Ericsson Lands LTE Deal in Mexico

STOCKHOLM -- Telcel, leading provider of wireless services in Mexico, has chosen Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) as its key supplier in the rollout of an LTE network in Mexico that will provide Telcel subscribers with more broadband speed.

The contract entails deployment of LTE in multiple bands to ensure the best possible experience for customers. It also includes the Evolved Packet Core with Home Subscriber Server (HSS) for user data management and SGSN-MME as the mobility management entity that handles control signaling and traffic and can be used for all three generations of mobile data services. Ericsson will also deliver Operating Support Systems (OSS).

Telcel is owned by América Móvil and with its about 69 million subscribers it has an estimated market share of about 77% in wireless services in Mexico.

Sergio Quiroga da Cunha, Head of Ericsson’s Region Latin America , said: "We have been partners to América Móvil for more than 15 years and we also have a very longstanding relationship with Telcel. With this launch, we take another terrific step in bringing superior connectivity to enable top services and capabilities to people in Mexico."
